La Cruz Mexico Celebrates New Year’s Eve

Hola La Cruz Mexico and beyond. What a beautiful place to live. The Banderas Bay is so amazing. The jungles meet the oceans making the Riviera Nayarit so very special.  A handful of friends and myself paddle boarded from Punta de Mita out to the Marietta Islands on the 26th. Large schools of dolphins, fish and whales were sighted. My friends husband followed us in their Catamaran, picking us up at the Marietta islands and we had a lovely afternoon on the bay. (That’s me far right.) I am feeling so very blessed. Get outside and have some holiday fun! There are so many options available.
As Christmas Day has passed with friends, parties, good food and entertainment at your favorite restaurant, these same restaurants are getting ready for the big New Year’s Eve celebrations. (view below) The big finale around the Banderas Bay with more firework shows than I have ever seen at one time will be lighting up the skies to bring in the New Year at midnight with parties going until dawn; also with single firework shows each night from the 25th to the 30th. The super comfortable Chica Locca has nightly bay tours serving sushi and national drinks all inclusive.  Email Cat@CatMorgan.me for more information and reservations.

RED or YELLOW  FOR NEW YEAR’S LUCK? Mexico also several New Years traditions, one being  whether to wear red or yellow underwear. These underwear need to be new for the New Year!  Those who wear yellow are believed to have luck with money in the coming year. and red are believed to have luck in love. Maybe I can find a red and yellow combo pair! Another Mexican tradition is when the clock strikes midnight eating 12 grapes representing good luck for each month.  Now, although the Mexican nationals do celebrate New Year’s Eve, the Christmas celebrations are not quite over yet!

El Dia de Los Reyes
Christmas continues in the Mexican tradition with El Dìa de Los Reyes (Three Kings Day.)  where the children receive presents is January 6th in remembrance of when the kings Reyes Mago, Melchor, Gaspar and Baltazar came to Bethlehem bringing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.to the Christ child in the manger. Another and older tradition is when before going to bed that night, children place their old shoes on the windowsill, where the Wise Men leave them their presents. Today the shoes are not always put out on the sill, but the younger children in each family still receive gifts from the Three Kings on this day.
On that evening of January 6th, (the 12th night), everyone enjoys hot chocolate with cinnamon and vanilla. A large sweet bread shaped in a ring called Rosca de Reyes is served. Inside a small usually plastic doll that represents baby Jesus is hidden. The person who gets the piece with the “baby Jesus” is responsible for bringing the tamales for the party of El Dia de la Candelaria, or Candlemas, on February 2nd. It is then that the nativity scene of the wise men and baby Jesus is stored away until next year and everyone feasts on the tamales and a corn drink called Atole, and the Christmas season is officially over.
